CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Radford Baseball team defeated Charleston Southern 7-4 after
Hunter Keen's three RBI game would help guide the Highlanders to the game two victory and even the series against the Buccaneers on Saturday afternoon at Nielsen Field at CSU Ballpark.
In the first, the Highlanders would score three runs to get things started in game two of the series. Cameron Pittman would leadoff the Highlanders with a triple to right field and later be brought home by a Zack Whitacre RBI single to center field. Mason Self would single to center field and move Whitacre to second and Hunter Keen would score the pair after he doubled down the left field line to make it a 3-0 game heading to the bottom of the inning. The Buccaneers would get one back to make it 3-1 leaving the frame.
The Highlanders were able to extend their lead by two, scoring a single run in the second and another in the third. For the second, Corbin Grantham would walk to first and later steal second. Jhonkeanu Perez would be the one to hit Radford's second triple of the day to score Grantham for the run. In the third, Keen would reach first off an error, steal second, and be brought home off another Charleston Southern error to give Radford the four-run cushion at 5-1 over the Buccaneers.
However, Charleston Southern would add a run in the fourth to chip away at the Highlander lead. They would chip away at the Radford lead again in the fifth after adding a pair of runs to bring themselves within one of the Highlanders at 5-4 before heading into the sixth.
For the sixth, Stanley would come in at mound for Rouse and begin his outing by striking out the Buccaneer side. In the seventh, Breckin Nace would homer to left field to give the Highlanders some insurance. Zack Whitacre would single to right field to reach first, then would advance to second after Mason Self was hit by a pitch. Keen would keep his bat hot, hitting a single to left field to drive Whitacre in for the final run of the game and giving Keen his third RBI of the day.
