Highlanders Fall to Charleston Southern in Game Three of Series

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Radford Baseball team was blanked by Charleston Southern in a 2-0 pitcher's duel in game three of the series on Sunday afternoon at Nielsen Field at CSU Ballpark.

For the first two innings of today's series finale, the Highlanders would lock themselves in a pitcher's duel with Charleston Southern. Dylan Howard's outing on the mound would be the bright spot of those two innings, as he would strike out the Buccaneer side in first and record strikeouts four and five in the second to retire the side in the second.

Charleston Southern would scratch across a run in the third, making it a 1-0 game. Howard would continue with his spectacular performance picking up another pair of strikeouts to retire the side in fourth and later keep the Buccaneers off the board in the fifth to hold them to the one run lead.

But, in the sixth, Charleston Southern would manage their last run of the game after their run would come in right before the tag that would ultimately be the third out. The Highlanders would have opportunities to put something together late in the game but were just unable to put the much-needed play together and see Charleston Southern take game three of the series at 2-0.

NOTABLES

  • Zack Whitacre now has a career high of 13 stolen bases on the season. His previous record career high was 12 where he was able to achieve that feat back last season.

  • With his eight strikeouts on the day Dylan Howard now sits on 67 strikeouts. Howard's 67 strikeouts is his new career high, breaking his career high of 62 strikeouts that he recorded last season.
