Wellings Earns Fourth Total Individual Championship and Championship Record in Day One of Big South Championships

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Highlanders began the Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships Monday at High Point. The women started the first day strong highlighted by Chloe Wellings taking gold, setting a Big South Championship record in the process, in the 10000m while Elyssia Fisher also placed on the podium at third in the long jump.

Wellings concluded the first day of the 2024 Big South Championships with her first place finish and individual championship coming in at 34:39.29 in the 10000m. The individual championship is her fourth as a Highlander. Not only did she achieve gold, this time marks a facility record at High Point's Vert Stadium and a Big South championship event record.

Fisher bettered her spot in the long jump to earn a personal best and move up in the record book. At 5.89m, she finished third in the category and is now at second all-time in Radford history. Fisher also bettered her time in the 200m dash at 24.81 to place in sixth. Also in the long jump, Dezmajia Carter earned seventh with a distance of 5.47m, an outdoor personal best.

Jaslyne Robinson came in sixth place in the 400m hurdles preliminaries with a time of 1:04.28 to qualify for finals.
 
Three Highlanders competed in the 1500m and each earned a qualifying time. Kate McLearen ran her way to fourth place at a time of 4:43.95. Right behind her, Sophie Magson placed fifth place at 4:44.19. Rounding off the trio, MegAnne Gilmore came in at 4:44.27 for sixth place.

On the field, Jaylen Rosser also made her mark in the hammer throw to earn fifth in Radford's record book. She betters her previous personal best by four meters throwing a distance of 47.00m to earn 12th place.
 
Kandace McIvor began the heptathlon earning two personal bests to put her fifth overall as she prepares to finish the event tomorrow. In the 100m hurdles she earned a personal record of 14.99 and in the high jump she tied her PR.

UP NEXT
Radford Women's Track and Field continue competition at the 2024 Big South Outdoor Track and Field Championships tomorrow, Tuesday, and will later conclude the event on Wednesday.
