Women’s Soccer Cruises by Wasps Behind Five Different Goal Scorers

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's soccer program cruised to victory Thursday night over Emory & Henry 5-0 as all five goals came from different scorers in a dominant effort.

KEY STATS
  • The Highlanders showed a dominant offensive effort outshooting the Wasps 28-2 with 20 of their 28 shots coming on goal.
  • Loundermon, Pomeroy-Anderson and Pendleton all knocked in their first goals of the 2024 season becoming the third, fourth and fifth different Highlanders to score this season.
  • Paige Olson also assisted a pair of goals tonight marking her first game of the season with multiple assists.
  • Loundermon paced the offense with five shots while Short was right behind her with four. Six other Highlanders ripped multiple shots in the game.
  • Radford also dominated in drawing corners, earning nine on the night, seven of which came in the opening 45 minutes.

PLAY BY PLAY
The Highlanders owned the possession game from start to finish over the Wasps leading to plenty of scoring opportunities. Radford was able to open up the game with their first goal in the 18th minute as Ashley Loundermon was able to strike thanks to a perfect feed from Jillian Silverstone.

Up 1-0, Radford kept up the pace as Eileen Albers scored her second goal of the season with a header from Paige Olson. That advantage would hold for the rest of the first half as the Highlanders offensive pressure and solid defense held the Wasps to just one shot through the first 45 minutes.

To begin the second half, Radford wasted no time as in the 55th minute Ciaira Pomeroy-Anderson would get her first collegiate goal off a corner kick from Paige Olson that bounced off Lilly Short for the 3-0 lead. Short, wanting to reestablish her team lead in goals, struck for her third of the season unassisted to put the team up 4-0.

In the 84th minute the Highlanders would tack on one more goal after a penalty was drawn inside the box. Emily Pendleton lined up for the attempt and scored her first career goal with ease to seal the eventual 5-0 final.

NOTABLES

HEAD COACH SOHRABI QUOTABLE
"I was really happy with the way we played tonight moving the ball really well. Every game is a different puzzle to solve and with Emory & Henry tactically playing a low block we had to be patient and create chances in different ways. I also liked how when we lost the ball, we did a great job with the counter press and didn't give them many chances. It's a good bounce back, we're looking forward to Sunday." – Ben Sohrabi.

AROUND THE BIG SOUTH
  • Gardner-Webb was narrowly edged in a tight contest at Boston College 2-1.
  • USC Upstate came up short in a 2-0 final up north against Saint Peter's.
