Firebaugh’s Big Performance Not Enough in Loss to High Point

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's basketball program fell in their Big South opener Thursday night to High Point in a 67-55 final.

KEY STATS
  • Firebaugh dropped the first 20-point performance in her Highlander career scoring 21 with a game-high 9 made shots from the floor including a trio of three-pointers.
  • Joi Williams also supplied 15 points with seven makes.
  • The Highlanders forced the Panthers into 19 turnovers but committed 22 on their own end.
  • Radford did not shoot a free throw in the first half, only making four in the second half as well.

PLAY BY PLAY
Starting off the game was Firebaugh who had the hot hand the whole night, hitting a three that put Radford up 3-2. Another pair of makes by Firebaugh paced Radford ahead 9-7, but that was the last lead they would hold as the Panthers paced ahead on a 13-6 run to finish the first quarter up 20-15.

Through seven minutes of the second quarter, offensive woes continued as Radford had just one make to fall behind 28-17. Turnovers kept the Highlanders close, as a late make from Williams made it just a 34-21 deficit at the half.

Williams, Firebaugh and Taylor Napper would all combine for makes out of the break as the Highlanders looked to find their rhythm. While the Highlanders found their pace, the Panthers matched them to keep their 50-35 advantage with one quarter to go.

The Highlanders offense would find a spark down the stretch as big makes from Firebaugh and Williams pulled the Panthers' lead to just six at 61-55. The Panthers would hit their free throws down the stretch as time ran out on the Highlanders with the 67-55 final.
