RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's basketball team stayed perfect on the home hardwood, taking down Niagara 80-58 to move to 4-0 at the Dedmon Center and get above the .500 mark for the first time this season.

KEY STATS

Georgia Simonsen recorded her first collegiate double-double, adding in 15 points with 10 rebounds.
Anaiah Jenkins posted a career-high 17 points with nine rebounds.
The Highlanders added 24 points from the free thrown line, converting at a 75 percent clip.

PLAY BY PLAY

Niagara applied strong defensive pressure throughout, but the Highlanders were able to break the pressure in the early going. Simonsen got the scoring started with an open layup in the lane, and her points were followed by a dribble, drive, and deuce for Joi Williams. Niagara battled back for a 7-0 run to briefly lead midway through the first. However, consistent trips to the free throw line and breakaway baskets put the Highlanders back up 25-19 after one.

The Highlanders continued to draw fouls and pick up free points at the line in the second quarter. The Purple Eagles got within one possession briefly, but a long 9-2 run by Radford gave them some space. Ellie Taylor converted a late layup to make it a 40-30 game at halftime.

Radford began to hit some shots from distance in the third quarter. Williams' trifecta with eight minutes left in the chapter made it an 11-point game, and Kirah Dandridge's corner three extended it to 14 points. As Niagara found themselves in more foul trouble, Simonsen capitalized with baskets underneath and points from the line to give the home side a 19-point advantage after three.

The Purple Eagles kept the traps and full-court pressure up late, but Radford had no trouble with a big lead. Angelina Nice converted a jumper to give Radford their largest lead (25 points) with a minute left as they cruised to an 80-58 final.

McGUIRE QUOTABLE

"The game was really what we thought it would be in terms of the pace and the physicality," said Head Coach Mike McGuire at the postgame press conference. "Niagara, in my opinion, is a lot better than their record. They can pose their style of play on the game. And I think that challenged us for quite a while today until we could get some separation toward the latter half of the third quarter. To our ladies credit, they just kept chipping away at it. Obviously, when you have a young player like Georgia, who's doing a great job for us. That helps quite a bit. I'm very proud of how we slowly chipped away towards the end of the third quarter. But a big credit to Niagara and how hard they played."

It'll be a busy feast week for the Highlanders as they'll head to Cleveland State for three games in four days. First up will be a matchup against Valparaiso on Wednesday, November 26 at 4:00 p.m. The game from Woodling Gymnasium will be streamed live on the Cleveland State Athletics YouTube channel.
