Seventh Inning Heroics Land Softball Walk Off Victory Over Hofstra

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Radford softball program got a strong outing from Dakota Redmon and used some heroic hitting from Isabel Harrison and Cassi Barbato to earn a thrilling 5-4 walk off win over Hofstra Saturday night.

Freshman pitcher Dakota Redmon got the starting nod for Radford and got things started right for her impressive evening as she struck out a batter in a scoreless first. Her offense would respond in kind, scoring the first run of the game in the bottom half of the inning.

Isabel Harrison got things started with a single and moved to second after Rachel Smith was hit by a pitch. With two outs, Kelley Feigen came up clutch with the RBI single up the middle for the 1-0 lead.

In the second inning, Hofstra would tag the Highlanders for four runs all scored with two outs in the inning. Now down 4-1, Radford looked to respond. After Abby Bossler reached thanks to an error, Grace Hogie earned a hit to put two runners on.

Amanda Lee kept the line moving with an RBI single that scored Bossler. The Highlanders added another as Hogie stole home to make it just a 4-3 deficit. Redmon would return to the circle in the third, now settled in.

Redmon struck out two batters in a clean third and kept rolling with two more strikeouts in a perfect fourth. Hofstra would get a two out hit in the fifth, but once again Redmon shut it down for another scoreless frame.

The offense was unable to cash in with a runner in scoring position in the fifth, so Redmon dialed up another two strikeouts to eliminate a leadoff hit by Hofstra in the sixth. With another runner in scoring position in the sixth, Hofstra escaped the threat once again going into the seventh.

After Redmon stranded a lead off double in the top of the seventh, Radford's offense would get the hit they'd been looking for. With Lee on first, Harrison roped her third hit of the night for a triple that scored Lee and tied the game at four-all. Behind her, Barbato didn't wait long to score Harrison for the walk off with an RBI single to center winning the game 5-4.
