RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's lacrosse program used a valiant second half effort Wednesday afternoon to tighten things up late before ultimately falling 20-9 to Kent State.
KEY STATS
PLAY BY PLAY
After the first half was largely dominated by Kent State, who scored twelve straight to open with a 12-0 lead in the match, it was Radford who would flip the script after halftime.
After Cheney scored the lone goal of the first half, she opened the scoring in half two as Radford trailed 13-2. After five scoreless minutes, Maddie Abbott and Madison Driscoll scored a pair of goals to stop the running clock.
A Kent State goal briefly put the opposition ahead 14-4 before Radford would score five unanswered. Cheney once again led that charge, scoring her third and fourth goals of the afternoon. Driscoll scored her second goal to make it a 14-7 match before Galbraith joined in on the scoring to make it 14-8.
Cheney capped the 5-0 Radford run with her fifth goal of the day and 10:27 left in the match trailing just 14-9. The Highlanders' comeback effort would slow down from there, however, as Kent State retook control scoring the final six goals to close out the match's 20-9 final.
UP NEXT
The Highlanders continue their home stretch when they return to SORC to host Akron on Wednesday, March 19th. Action is set to begin at 2 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
