Late Homer Sinks Softball’s Efforts at UNC Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Radford softball program fell victim to a walk-off homer at UNC Greensboro Wednesday afternoon despite some solid pitching in the 2-1 final.
 
KEY STATS
  • Rachel Smith continued her hot hitting with the lone RBI hit in the opening inning.
  • Dakota Redmon finished her week with eight innings of scoreless work.
  • The homer in the seventh was the first given up by Radford's pitching staff since March 9th.
 
PLAY BY PLAY
Radford's offense would strike for its lone run of the day in the opening inning. Amanda Lee drew a walk before moving to second off a groundout. Smith's double plated Lee and gave Radford the 1-0 advantage that would hold for six innings.
 
Redmon earned the starting nod working through a dangerous Spartans' lineup allowing zero runs to score over her four innings. Morgan Cooper would enter in relief and continue the dominance with a scoreless fifth and sixth innings.
 
Radford's offense was stifled after the opening frame, only collecting two hits from Cassi Barbato and Klara Van Beuge the rest of the way. A few missed opportunities proved pivotal in the final frame, as UNC Greensboro struck despite being down to their final out.
 
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, a pinch-hit two-run homer would push UNC Greensboro ahead for the walk-off 2-1 final.
 
UP NEXT
Radford will have the upcoming weekend off from action before regrouping for more Big South action next wee.
