Baseball suffers road setback against the Aggies

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Radford baseball program suffered an 8-2 setback at the hands of North Carolina A&T in a mid-week, non-conference showdown at World War Memorial Stadium on Wednesday night.
 
The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Highlanders, dating back to March 11.
 
THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Radford – 2, North Carolina A&T – 8
LOCATION: World War Memorial Stadium (Greensboro, North Carolina)
RECORDS: Radford 10-9 (3-0), NCA&T 4-14 (0-0)
 
THE BREAKDOWN
- Hunter Keen led the Radford offense with two hits in the contest off a 2-for-5 evening at the dish. He also swiped a base.
- Jhonkeanu Perez and Corbin Grantham each drove in a run apiece, respectively.
- Noah Toole scored both Highlander runs with a 1-for-3 effort that included a steal of his own and a base on balls.
- James Ward (1-for-4) also posted a hit.
- Eli Hudgins drew two walks to go with a stolen base.
- Breckin Nace fired two scoreless frames out of the pen that included three strikeouts and only one hit against.
- Radford was seeing the ball well as the squad finished with more walks (five) than base hits (four).
- The Highlanders continued to be a terror on the base paths with four steals overall.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Aggies struck first with two runs in the bottom of the first to jump out to a 2-0 lead.
- North Carolina A&T added another run in the third to make it 3-0.
- Radford made it a game in the top of the fifth as a sacrifice fly by Grantham plated Toole to cut the deficit to 3-1.
- The Aggies responded right back however with a run in the bottom of the six, another in the seventh and three in the eighth to take an 8-1 advantage.
- A Perez sac fly pushed across another run for the Highlanders in the top of the ninth, but by then the damage was already done as North Carolina A&T took the victory.
 
NEXT UP
Radford remains on the road and heads to the nation's capital to take on Georgetown in a three-game set that gets underway on Friday, March 21. First pitch is set for 4 PM ET from Capital One Park.
