RADFORD, Va. – The Radford baseball program found itself on the wrong side of a New River Valley rumble to local foe Virginia Tech by a 6-1 margin at Sherman Carter Memorial Stadium on Tuesday night.

THE BREAKDOWN

James Ward paced the Radford offense with the only RBI of the game off a 1-for-3 showing at the dish that included the aforementioned RBI and a base on balls.

Hunter Keen kept his hot start to the year rolling with a 2-for-4 performance that featured a run scored.

Breckin Nace was a handful as he posted a 1-for-2 evening. He also drew a game best two walks.

Brady Whitacre (1-for-4),
Noah Toole (1-for-4),
Eli Hudgins (1-for-3) all finished with a base knock, respectively.
- Six different Highlanders recorded at least one base hit in the contest.

Clay Clatterbaugh fired two scoreless innings in relief along with two strikeouts.
- To go with his performance at the plate, Nace also posted a scoreless frame out of the bullpen with a single punch out.
- Radford won't have to wait long to get a chance at revenge as the Highlanders and Hokies will meet once again, this time in Blacksburg, on Tuesday, April 1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hokies got the scoring started with a run in the top of the third and another in the top of the fourth to jump out to a 2-0 lead.
- Virginia Tech added two more runs in the top of the sixth to start to pull away at 4-0.
- The Highlanders made it a game as Ward sent a rocket up the middle to score Keen to make it a 4-1 game in the bottom of the eighth. Radford would bring the game-tying run to the plate in the inning, but the Hokies were able to wiggle out of the jam.
- VT added two runs of insurance in the top of the ninth to seal the 6-1 victory.
