Softball Splits Pair of One Run Games Against James Madison and Fordham

HARRISONBURG, Va. –The Radford softball program split a pair of one run games Friday afternoon falling to the weekend hosts James Madison 3-2 before going eight innings and earning a 6-5 walk-off win over Fordham.

GAME ONE
Dakota Redmon earned the start in Radford's first game against James Madison and tossed another solid game of work for the Highlanders. After an early home run, Redmon settled in and kept the Dukes scoreless for the next four innings.

Radford's offense was held quiet through the first three innings but found their swing in the fourth against a tough opponent in the circle. After Amanda Lee reached by an error, Abby Bossler drew a walk as Radford looked to take advantage.

Grace Hogie had the first hit of the game, strong enough to score the runner on second and tie the game at 1-1. Jada Holt soon followed with another RBI single that gave Radford the 2-1 lead. Redmon would toss scoreless fourth and fifth innings, but in the sixth the Dukes struck again for a pair of runs to go up 3-2.

Hogie and Amber Wolfe would both reach base via singles to try and spark a rally in the seventh. James Madison would hold on, however, sealing the tight 3-2 final.

GAME TWO
Radford's offense would continue to click into the second game as the Highlanders looked to back up their pitching staff. After Fordham went ahead 2-0 in the first, Radford responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half.

Lee and Barbato both singled followed by Rachel Smith who roped a single up the middle to score Lee. Hogie would net another RBI with a sacrifice fly, successfully tying the game at 2-2. Fordham would tack on a run in the third to go back ahead, but Radford got a big swing in the bottom of the third to earn their first lead.

After R. Smith drew a walk and Hogie singled, with two outs Amber Wolfe came to the plate and crushed her first home run of the season. The three-run swing threw Radford back ahead 5-3. A pair of unearned runs in the fifth would tie the game at 5-5, though, eventually forcing the game into extra innings.

Abby Peace played a large role getting the game to extras and the eventual walk-off. Peace worked through some traffic in the seventh inning to preserve the tie and worked around a runner on second to start the eighth to again keep the score at 5-5.

Radford would load the bases in the bottom of the eighth thanks to a hit from Isabel Harrison and a fielder's choice from Lee. With the pressure on, Barbato put the ball in play and Holt was able to cross home for the walk-off 6-5 win.
