Robertson’s Goal Lifts Men’s Soccer to Draw Against Liberty

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford men's soccer program got a big goal from freshman Christian Robertson to help draw a 1-1 tie with Liberty Thursday night in the team's home opener.

KEY STATS
  • The goal by Robertson was the first in his young Radford career and marked the third straight goal scored by a different Highlander this season.
  • The tie against Liberty snaps a four-game winning streak dating back to 2019 by the Flames over the Highlanders.
  • Both squads were pretty even all night in shots (10-8), corners (5-3) and saves (2-1).
  • Kevin Habibelahy and Hiromasa Iwai both led the shots department with two apiece.

PLAY BY PLAY
Through the opening half, both squads were even as neither team was able to break through. The first dangerous moment came in the closing minutes of the half as a loose ball got stuck between a few Highlanders defenders and keeper Ben Miller, but Kiril Smirnov was able to send the ball out to avoid any damage.

Through the first half unscathed, Radford's defense continued to play strong thwarting a fast Liberty offense. After an offsides wiped a would-be goal for the Highlanders, Radford didn't let up and immediately struck back,

Thanks to a cross in by Dax Booth, Robertson was able to collect and strike easily to put Radford ahead 1-0. A few minutes later, however, Liberty was able to move the ball downfield and find the equalizer. Radford's offense bent, didn't break, and held on the rest of the way to preserve the eventual tie as the game went final 1-1.
