Highlanders Post Huge Weekend at Tryon Winter Classic

MILL SPRING, N.C. – The Radford track and field team got back into their rhythm to begin the 2026 portion of the indoor schedule, with several individuals turning in winning performances. A total of six all-time performances were turned in across the board, including five wins.

"This is our first meet back from break, so you never really know how athletes respond after a long block of training solo," said Director of Track & Field Shelli Sayers. "I am really impressed with how we competed this weekend and what's to come over the next few weeks."

NOTABLES

Sophomore Jeylah Hamrick continued her streak of smashing school records. Finishing second overall in the 600-meters with a time of 1:35.89, she now holds the top spot in the Radford record books for the 500 and 600 meters.
The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Mattie Flores, Raichelle Cornelius, Jordan Jackson, and Hamrick dominated with a time of 3:47.20. The group is now second on the Radford all-time performance list. Following closely behind was the group of Jaelynn Joiner, Grace Onwi, Jaslyne Robinson, and Janaya Moore, who finished second overall and just missed out on cracking the all-time top 10 list with a time of 3:54.61.
Joiner competed in the women's triple jump for the first time and put in a winning performance with a mark of 12.19 meters (40 feet). The result moves her to third on the all-time performance list. Aliyah Taylor also turned in a new personal best with an 11^th place finish.
Senior Sophie Magson won the women's 3000 meters by a healthy 23-second margin. Her mark of 9:44.51 was a personal best and moves her up to fifth on the all-time performance list.
Flores smashed her personal best to win the women's 400-meter race with a time of 56.83. The time puts her sixth on the all-time performance list.
Robinson reached the women's 60-meter hurdles final and set a new personal record with a time of 7.84 in the final and 7.75 in the prelim. Joiner also posted a nice time of 7.89 to place ninth overall.
The Rosser twins posted a season-best in weight throw, with Mya placing fifth and Jaylen adding a new PR.
On the men's side, freshman Quinlan Beegle ran a 4:19.47 in the one-mile race to place ninth overall and move into fourth on the all-time performance list.
In his first event as a Radford athlete, Andrew Picataggi posted the 10^th-best result in Radford men's track history with a leap of 6.55 meters (21'6").

UP NEXT
Highlander athletes are back in action next week at Virginia Tech in the Hokie Invitational. The action begins on Friday and concludes on Saturday from the Rector Field House.
