Women’s Track & Field Reaches New Heights in USTFCCA Regional Ratings

RADFORD, Va. – After several dominating performances at the Doc Hale Invite the previous weekend, the Radford women's indoor track and field team has jumped to No. 15 in the Southeast Region's USTFCCCA Track & Field Rating Index.

The Highlanders jolted up 10 spots in the region (in the most recent checkpoint released on February 10. It's the highest ranking ever for the women's track team and was the largest jump by any program this week. Including American Conference members, Radford is the fifth-highest mid-major in the region.

"I am not much on rankings," said Director of Track and Field Shelli Sayers. "I believe it is all (about) getting it done on championship day. But this is an exciting week to celebrate the hard work of the entire women's team. It is fun to see how we stack up against other teams in the region, especially the mid-majors."

The rating is thanks to several top 10 regional performances by the team. The 4x400 meter relay squad of Jeylah Hamrick, Mattie Flores, Jordan Jackson, and Raichelle Cornelius set another school record on Saturday. Their time of 3:40.20 is the fifth best in the region, trailing only South Carolina, Duke, Kentucky, and Clemson. Hamrick's school record on Friday that won the 400 meters is the sixth-best time in the southeast. Makayla Nelson's high jump mark of 1.71 meters (5'7.25") completed in the Liberty Kick Off sits as the eighth-best performance in the region as well.

The USTFCCCA Track & Field Rating Index (TFRI) is a complex mathematical system used to rank collegiate track and field teams.

Radford hopes to continue to improve on a fantastic start to the indoor season this weekend at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invite on February 13 and 14 hosted by Liberty University.
