Softball Falls in Tough Final at North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Radford softball program fell in a tough final Wednesday night at ACC foe North Carolina in a 6-0 final score.

PLAY BY PLAY
Radford's offense looked like it would get off to a strong start as Peyton Simmons collected a hit on a well struck ball to third base. After initially being ruled out on a catch, the umpires met and reversed it to get Simmons back on the bases. Simmons would get to second before being stranded there.

After getting the first two outs in the bottom of the first, North Carolina struck their first long ball of the evening to go ahead 3-0. The Tarheels would go scoreless in the second before adding another run via a home run and two-out double in the third to push further ahead 5-0. The Highlanders offense wasn't able to respond, and after some unfortunate breaks on the defensive end North Carolina would add an unearned run in the fourth to go up 6-0.

In the bottom of the fifth North Carolina threatened to add more after the first two runners reached. Dakota Redmon would retire three straight, though, to keep Radford alive into the sixth. Simmons would stay hot, roping another single to left while Amanda Lee drew her second walk to put a runner in scoring position. The threat would end there as North Carolina got two straight groundouts to keep it a 6-0 game.

Redmon dialed up another scoreless frame in the sixth to send the game into it's final inning. Abby Bossler would begin the inning with a hit by pitch but the Highlanders weren't able to break the shutout, falling in the 6-0 final.
