Lacrosse Sees Improvement in Loss to George Washington

RADFORD, Va. – After nearly being shut out in a 17-goal loss to the Revolutionaries last season, the Radford women's lacrosse team hung around for most of the match, ultimately falling to George Washington, 17-7, at the SORC on Saturday afternoon.

KEY STATS
  • The Highlanders led for the first time this season, with Maddy Driscoll scoring the first goal just three minutes in.
  • Ava LaManna made 13 saves, the most since April 5, 2025, at Mercer (18).
  • Evie Gee added two goals to lead the Highlanders.
  • Ashlyn Bell scored her first collegiate goal.
PLAY BY PLAY
George Washington thought they could just walk off the bus and win, but the Highlanders came ready to play out of the gates. An early save by LaManna led to a chance for Radford, and Driscoll cashed in for the team's first lead of the season, coming a few minutes in. LaManna added another save before the Revs were able to break through with 10 minutes left in the first. That's when George Washington piled on three more goals in a handful of minutes. Radford stopped the bleeding, holding the Revs without a fifth for the final five minutes of the first.

The visitors tallied two more before Mady Cheney added her fifth goal of the season, this time from a free position shot, to make it a 6-2 game. Gee then got hot, scoring on back-to-back trips to make it a 7-4 contest with a handful of minutes before half. However, Gee would pick up a green card, allowing for the Revs to add an eighth goal with a man advantage. Another goal for George Washington from a free position try made it 9-4 going into the break.

A slow start out of the gates in the second half spelled doom for the Highlanders, as the Revs added five goals before the Highlanders could make a response. Two green cards called against George Washington led to Radford's fifth goal, a strike by Cassidy Deierlein, to stop the running clock a couple minutes before the end of the third period.

Both sides split the final period with two goals each. Bell and Molly O'Brien found the back of the net for the Highlanders. George Washington went back up 10 with just over three minutes left to run the clock out.
