PLAY BY PLAY
For the first few minutes, the Highlanders came out of the attack. Mady Cheney controlled the opening draw, Evie Gee had an early free shot, and Molly O'Brien scored at the 13:07 mark to make it 1-0 Radford. After a defensive stop, Cheney scored a spectacular goal, catching Akron asleep at the wheel on a pass in the defensive half. She swiped a shot past the goalkeeper after the interception and made it 2-0 Radford less than a handful of moments in.

The Zips rallied with a vengeance, scoring three times to lead by a tally at the end of the first period. Akron piled on six more goals to open the second before Cassidy Deierlein and Lockhart found the net, making it a five-goal deficit at halftime.

Things got out of hand for the Highlanders in the second half, as Akron pulled ahead by double digits before the end of the third quarter. Zeuner entered with eight minutes remaining in the third and finished things the rest of the way totaling three saves on eight shots on goal.
