Women’s Lacrosse Bested by Fighting Camels

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Radford Highlanders women's lacrosse team built up an early first quarter lead before ultimately falling to a tough Campbell team, 17-8, on Wednesday at Barker-Lane Stadium. The Highlanders fall to 1-7 while the Fighting Camels move to 9-2 and pick up their seventh win against a Big South opponent.
KEY STATS
The Highlanders came out ready to play, scoring three quick goals before Campbell could respond. The defense forced two turnovers, and Maggie Wisniewski found the net and was assisted by Evie Gee to make it 1-0. A third turnover led to Deierlein scoring less than a minute later, and Deierlein added a third goal before five minutes were off the clock. Campbell took a timeout to regroup and ended the shutout a few moments later. Radford held a 3-1 lead throughout most of the quarter before Campbell scored again in the closing seconds.
Campbell took advantage of several Radford fouls to even the score at 3-3 early in the second and followed to take the lead with 11:12 left before half. Ashlyn Bell and Maddy Driscoll scored to close the second period, but it was Campbell in control 8-5 at the break.
Cheney scored to keep the deficit at three with 6:47 left in the third, but Campbell answered with two tallies to make it 11-6. Deierlein secured the hat trick on a free position shot attempt with 3:19 left in the third. Campbell extended their advantage to five at the end of three, then outscored Radford 5-1 in the fourth for the 17-8 final.

The Highlanders are back at the SORC on Sunday for a matchup against Monmouth. First draw is set for Noon from Radford and will be streamed on ESPN+.

KEY STATS
- Radford led 3-2 after one were outscored 15-5 the rest of the way.
- Cassidy Deierlein scored three goals for the second-straight game, this time accomplishing the hat trick in five shots (compared to 7 vs. Butler).
- Sam Flippo was all over the place at the defensive end, grabbing a team-high four ground balls and causing four turnovers.
- Senior Mady Cheney grabbed a team-high four draw controls and has 200 in her career. She's the second Highlander to have 200 draw controls in her career, with the other being Adrian Rus (2016-19) with 305.
