Gee Adds Hat Trick in Radford’s Final Game of Road Trip

BOX SCORE EMMITSBURG, Md. – Senior Evie Gee logged her second career hat trick and first of the season, but her effort was not enough, as the Radford women's lacrosse team fell 15-6 to Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday afternoon at Waldron Family Stadium.

KEY STATS
  • Gee is the second Highlander to score a hat trick this season after Ashlyn Bell's six-goal performance at Howard on Sunday.
  • Radford hung with the Mountaineers through the first half, trailing 5-4 at halftime.
  • The Highlanders won the turnover battle 15-14 and caused 12 of those 15. They were also able to clear the Mountaineers attack 20 out of 22 tries.
PLAY BY PLAY
Radford found themselves in a 1-0 hold less than a minute into the game but did not wither after the slow start. Bell played the role of the bellwether, causing a turnover and scoring the answer to tie it at one goal each. Mount St. Mary's got a second goal after winning the following draw, but Gee got a goal on a second chance look to make it 2-2. Gee's second tally came after a Mountaineer turnover and gave Radford a brief lead before Mount St. Mary's answered right back with 2:46 left in the first. A late shot by Driscoll was saved to keep things knotted up after one.

The scoring slowed in the second quarter, with both sides digging in. The cold and rainy weather probably should have led to more scoring chances, but neither side waivered in their defensive schemes. The Mountaineers added a pair of goals to make it 5-3 midway through the second. The Highlanders capitalized on a green card awarded to Mount St. Mary's, with Gee scoring her third goal for the hat trick with 2:20 left before the horn. Shannon Rooney caused a turnover to prevent Mount St. Mary's from a scoring chance to send the game to halftime in the balance.

The third quarter was a departure of the first half in terms of play. The Mountaineers capitalized on winning many draw controls to outscore the Highlanders 6-0 in the quarter. Aleese Warner and Driscoll added goals in the fourth quarter, but the damage was done as Mount St. Mary's coasted to the nine-goal triumph.

UP NEXT
The Highlanders will be back home at the SORC for just their second home game of the season next week. They'll play host to Merrimack on Tuesday, March 10 at 3:00 p.m.
