Levesque Plays Hero Late Totaling 3 RBI as Radford Opens Series with Win at High Point

BOX SCORE HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Radford baseball program got a big hit late from Alex Levesque to pick up the Friday night victory at High Point, their first win over the Panthers since 2022.

The Highlanders offense started hot in the first, but a double play wiped the early threat. Starting pitcher Raymond Ladd worked around a hit by pitch and single as well to keep the game tied at 0-0. After the offense was retired in order in the second, Ladd returned the favor in the bottom half. In the third, the Highlanders would break through.

After Alex Levesque and Brooks Simpson singled to begin the inning, Junho Son cashed in with his second hit of the day to score two. With two outs in the inning, Radford got another run as Breckin Nace singled home Son. The third also featured the Panthers' first runs of the evening as they used a sacrifice fly and double to cut the lead to 3-2.

Radford was able to bounce back thanks in part to a triple by Noah Toole in the fourth. Levesque brought home Toole with his second hit of the game, an infield single to short.

Errors would hurt the Highlanders in the bottom of the fourth as High Point scored three times to take their first lead. Radford went right back to work in the fifth loading the bases with none out as Son walked, Hunter Keen walked and Eli Hudgins earned a bunt single. That forced a Panthers pitching change which limited Radford's damage to just one run. Devin Parks picked up the sacrifice fly, tying the game at 5-5.

Things calmed down considerably from there as in the sixth as both teams were held scoreless with Trey Ludy, who entered in the fifth, tossed two straight scoreless frames. In the seventh, Ludy made it three straight after working around a two-out double.

Deadlocked in a 5-5 tie, Radford dug deep to get a big hit in the eighth. After Toole singled to begin the inning, Brady Powell worked a walk to put two on. Levesque came through for the Highlanders with double to right center scoring both Toole and Powell for the 7-5 advantage.

The Panthers struck for a run in the bottom of the eighth and would mount their comeback attempt in the ninth. After Joshua Milleville got the first out of the ninth, Corey Costello entered in relief. The Panthers doubled to put the tying run on third and winning run on second. After an intentional walk, Costello picked up a huge strikeout. Mason Hatcher would enter looking for the final out and did just that getting a lineout to first to cap the 7-6 victory.

The second game of the series against High Point is slated for a 4:00 p.m. start on Saturday, April 11th on ESPN+. Sunday's finale is scheduled for national television on ESPNU with a 3:00 p.m. first pitch.
