Baseball Falls in Saturday Meeting at High Point

BOX SCORE HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Radford baseball program fell behind early and wasn't able to fully come back as High Point evened the weekend series Saturday with a 6-2 final.

The Panthers would take an early 3-0 lead to Saturday's game thanks in part to a homer in the bottom of the first. Following the first, Andrew Steinhaus would enter for Radford and battle to keep the Highlanders in the game. While the Highlanders were retired in order through the first three innings, Steinhaus tallied scoreless frames in the second and third.

Junho Son stayed hot and picked up Radford's first hit of the day with a lead off single in the fourth. A double play wiped that threat, however, as High Point maintained their 3-0 advantage. Steinhaus picked up two more strikeouts in the bottom of the inning and in the fifth worked around a one-out double to cap four straight innings of scoreless relief work.

In the sixth, Radford's offense would break through. Zach Zelazny singled to center and moved to second on a bunt. With two outs, Hunter Keen doubled home Zelazny to make it just a 3-1 deficit.

The Panthers responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to go ahead 5-1. Radford kept things within striking distance in the seventh plating another run. Breckin Nace singled and Brady Powell doubled to set Radford up with none out. A Noah Toole groundout plated Nace, but that was the only run the Highlanders earned as the team remained down 5-2.

The Panthers would swipe home to gain another run in the bottom of the seventh, but Mason Self entered to limit any more damage with a pair of strikeouts. Radford was blanked in the eighth and a flurry of relievers including Self, Will Palmer and Hunter Howard kept High Point off the board in the bottom half. Down four, Radford wasn't able to mount the comeback in the final inning as High Point sealed the 6-2 finish.

UP NEXT
Radford and High Point will wrap up the weekend with Sunday's finale which is scheduled for national television on ESPNU with a 3:00 p.m. first pitch.
