CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South conference announced Tuesday that Sam Flippo has been named Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight week after another stellar week of causing turnovers and helping the Highlanders to their second conference win.
After setting a new single-game record for caused turnovers against Winthrop on April 1, the junior rebroke that mark with eight this past Saturday vs. Gardner-Webb. Flippo also now holds the Radford record for most caused turnovers in a season with 42 this year, breaking the record with three regular season contests remaining. Radford as a team caused 20 turnovers against Garder-Webb, which was a new single-game program record. The High Point transfer also caused a couple of turnovers and picked up five ground balls against her former team on April 8.
On the season, Flippo leads the Big South in caused turnovers and averages three a game, also ranking in the top 10 nationally in the category. She also is fourth in ground balls per game (2.71) in the conference.
Flippo is the first player to win back-to-back Big South Player of the Week awards in program history and the first to win multiple since Ava Goeller took home three Freshman of the Week honors in 2021.
Radford has a bye during the midweek, getting a full week off before playing next Saturday. They'll host the top team in the Big South standings, Mercer, on April 18 at 11:00 a.m. The game will be Radford's Morgan's Message dedication game, raising awareness for the importance of mental health.
