Redmon Tosses Radford’s First No Hitter in Six Seasons as Highlanders Top Buccaneers

RADFORD, Va. – Dakota Redmon put her name in the record book (again) Friday night as she tossed a no-hitter in a shortened 8-0 victory over Charleston Southern. Redmon is the first Highlander to throw a no hitter since 2020, and just the second to ever throw one against a Big South foe.

PLAY BY PLAY
Redmon was dominant throughout the game on her way to her first career no hitter. In the first, she battled through a long at bat to start the game that ended in a strikeout. In the bottom of the first, Radford's offense didn't wait long to break open a big lead.

Peyton Simmons, Amber Wolfe and Malli Groves all drew walks to load the bases. With two outs, Abby Bossler delivered a big two-RBI single to get Radford ahead 2-0. Hailey Scott would drive in two more runs after an error on the Buccaneers' side pushed the lead to 4-0. After Klara Van Beuge singled, Grace Bechtol doubled home one more run to give Radford the 5-0 lead.

That scoring advantage was plenty for Redmon who went right back to work retiring the side in the second with three straight groundouts. To begin the bottom half of the frame, Amanda Lee got Radford rolling right away with a single to center. Wolfe walked, and after a fielder's choice moved Lee to third Groves brought her home with another fielder's choice.

Bossler would walk to reload the bases, and Van Beuge also drew a walk to push Radford's lead even further to 7-0. It was more of the same for Redmon in the third as she struck out two in a flawless inning. After three more groundouts in the fourth, Redmon kept accumulating outs into the fifth inning. An error gave the Buccaneers their first base runner of the day, but Redmon dialed up a foul out right away to keep things quiet.

Needing just a run for the walk-off and sealing Redmon's great showing, the Highlanders offense didn't miss a beat. Lee led off the inning with a single and Wolfe quickly followed with another to put two runners on. Groves delivered the final blow for Radford with a single that scored Lee and sealed Radford's 8-0 win and Redmon's no hitter in five innings.
