Radford’s Tournament Run Comes to End on Semifinal Friday

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Radford's Big South Tournament run came to an end in Friday afternoon's semifinal round against the fifth seed Gardner-Webb 4-1.
 
PLAY BY PLAY
Early on in Friday's battle, it was a pitcher's duel as starter Madison Sabo look great in the circle facing a threatening Runnin' Bulldogs offense. After an easy first, an error to open the inning would open the door for Gardner-Webb's first run. With runners on the corner and one out, a groundout gave Gardner-Webb the 1-0 lead.
 
Radford's offense had no answers the first time through the order, but got things moving in the bottom of the fourth. Peyton Simmons singled, but a double play wiped the bases clean. Dakota Redmon would walk and Kelley Feigen singled, but with two outs already Radford wasn't able to scratch across the tying run.
 
In the top of the fifth, walks came back to haunt Radford as a Gardner-Webb plated two after loading the bases with two free passes. Redmon, entering in relief, limited any more damage with two pop ups to keep it a 3-0 deficit.
 
In the sixth the Runnin' Bulldogs tagged on another vital run following a stolen base and errant throw into the outfield. A replay review on a runner left early ask came back inconclusive, and the Highlanders trailed 4-0.
 
In the bottom of the sixth, Radford kept trying to chip into that deficit. Simmons and Malli Groves both singled to begin the inning, but an RBI groundout by Feigen was the only run that would cross. In Radford's last chance in the seventh Gardner-Webb made two great defensive plays to silence any comeback attempt and end the game 4-1 in their favor.
