Guidelines for Summer School/Housing and Meals

Summer School Aid

Summer Orientation Program
Radford University Summer Orientation is offered in June and July of each year and participation by all incoming student-athletes is encouraged. The office of new student programs offers two orientation programs: one for new freshmen and one for transfer students. The orientation program is a valuable service offered to aid the student-athlete in their transition into college. Orientation topics include academic advising, course registration, drop/add, withdraw, eligibility, university rules and regulations, a career interest inventory and assorted other university and athletic life issues. Student-Athlete Support Services encourages all incoming student-athletes to participate in the summer orientation program.

On-Campus Housing
Radford University offers a wide range of housing options. The Division of Athletics works closely with the Office of Residential Life to coordinate the housing needs of our student-athletes. According to the NCAA bylaw 16.5.1.1, “an institution is required to apply the same housing policies to student-athletes as it applies to the student body in general.  During the academic year, the institution may not house student-athletes in athletics dormitories or athletics blocks within institutional or privately owned dormitories or apartment buildings (when the institution arranges for the housing) on those days when institutional dormitories are open to the general student body.”

All new freshmen are required to live in university residence halls unless they qualify for off-campus housing status. (Please see the Boarding Policy in the Undergraduate Catalog). Student-athletes who have lived on campus for at least two (2) semesters and are interested in living off campus must complete an Off-Campus Education Session. This session is designed to present students with useful information related to making housing choices. The session is sponsored by the Office of the Dean of Students and the Off Campus Student Council.

Pre-Season Housing and Meals
All incoming freshmen and returning student-athletes that live on-campus during the academic year are eligible to receive on-campus pre-season housing. In order to receive on-campus housing and meals during pre-season, a student-athlete must be eligible to receive such benefits. Coaches must provide the Assistant Athletic Director of Student-Athlete Support Services a list of all incoming and returning on-campus student-athletes no later than June 1st.

Break Housing
Radford University maintains one dorm for break housing. Break housing is available to a limited number of qualifying students and to student-athletes that are in-season.  Eligible student-athletes, who must remain on campus during the break, must notify the Assistant Athletic Director of Student-Athlete Support Services and submit a break housing agreement form to the office of Residential Life.
