Robert Yonce

Robert Yonce is entering his second season with the Highlanders after being hired in June, 2021.

"I am thrilled to join Coach McGuire and staff at Radford," said Yonce. "His success at Radford has been nothing short of remarkable. I hope to help build on and contribute to it. I'm honored to be a part of the exciting future ahead for this program and grateful for the opportunity to join an exceptional staff. And not to mention be closer to home. Thank you to all who have been a part of this journey!"

Yonce traded the snow-capped mountains of Ogden, Utah for the rolling hills of the New River Valley after his previous position was as an assistant coach for Weber State's women's basketball team. He joined the Wildcats in May of 2019 and spent two seasons with the team.

While at Weber State, Yonce helped the team by delivering game plans and scouting strategies on opposing players and teams' plays. He also performed in-game changes for defensive strategy as well as individual player match ups. Off the court he worked on communicating and collaborating with academic advisors on athlete performance and helped maintain progress for each semester towards graduation.

"Robert is a welcomed addition to our coaching staff," commented women's basketball head coach Mike McGuire. "I am excited that we have added someone that is familiar with southwest Virginia and Radford University. Robert has had great experience at Southern Utah, Emory & Henry, and Weber State that will help our staff tremendously. He is a person of high character and is an excellent communicator. He has a versatile skill set that will allow him to help our student-athletes in several ways. He also loves to study the game as well as the analytics and that will provide great insight for our program moving forward. I look forward to working with him and having our coaching staff back to full strength."

In his seasons prior to Weber State, he spent four years with Southern Utah as an assistant coach before returning to the east coast for a season with Emory & Henry. While at Emory & Henry he was responsible for opponent scouting and game prep. He also coordinated and implemented individual skill development plans for players. The team saw great success in his season there posting a 22-3 overall record ranking as high as #16 in the nation.

Yonce has constantly developed and learned from some of the best in women's basketball since his career started while attending the University of Tennessee. While there, he was a practice player under the legendary Coach Pat Summit which gave him the opportunity to see practices and talk with the coaching staff daily.

Yonce is now making the trip from the west coast back to southwest Virginia once again as he originally hails from Wytheville, Virginia. In 2012 he graduated from the University of Tennessee with Honors while attaining his BS in Logistics and a minor in Psychology.
