SAPPHIRE, N.C. – Led by Sean Goshert's (Conway, S.C.) even-par 71, the Radford men's golf team fired a team total of 295 Monday to sit fifth after round one of 2008 Hummingbird Intercollegiate hosted by Western Carolina.
A junior and product of Socastee High School, Goshert (35-36) will enter the final round tied for ninth just four strokes off the pace.
Playing in his first collegiate tournament, the Highlanders'
Paul Woodson (Powhatan, Va.) carded a two-over 73 and is currently tied for 16th out of 83 competitors.
Chris Dillow (Bland, Va.) opened with a 75, while
Michael Wade (Floyd, Va.) and
Kyle Bailey (Fincastle, Va.) sit tied for 45th and 56th, respectively.
Radford, looking for its third top-five finish of the fall campaign, trails Western Carolina by one swing and is just two back of Akron. Nationally-ranked UCF leads the 14-team field following a three-under 281 on its first 18 holes of competition.
The Golden Knight's David Johnson holds the top spot on the individual leaderboard after a four-under 67.
The second and final round is slated for Tuesday, Nov. 4 with tee times beginning at 9:30 a.m.
