
Men’s Golf Concludes Fall with 8th Place Finish at Hummingbird Intercollegiate

SAPPHIRE, N.C. – The Radford men's golf team carded a final round 296 Tuesday to finish eighth at the 2008 Hummingbird Intercollegiate hosted by Western Carolina. The 36-hole event and fall finale for the Highlanders was played at the 6,767-yard Country Club of Sapphire Valley.
Playing in his first collegiate tournament, Paul Woodson (Powhatan, Va.) was the top Highlander finisher with a two-day score of 147 (73-74). Sean Goshert (Conway, S.C.) and Michael Wade (Floyd, Va.) placed tied for 40th at 149, while Chris Dillow (Bland, Va.) and Kyle Bailey (Fincastle, Va.) finished with a group of golfers in 52nd place.
Nationally-ranked UCF edged Vanderbilt for the team title with an eight-under 276 on its final 18 holes of competition. Akron placed third, while Elon and Western Carolina rounded out the top five.
Vanderbilt's Hudson Johnson backed his opening round 68 with a tournament-low six-under 65 to claim the individual title. The Golden Knight's David Johnson, who held the overnight lead, finished a stroke off the pace at eight-under par following his second consecutive 67.
Radford will enjoy a lengthy break before returning to the course for its spring opener at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate, March 15-16 in Pinehurst, N.C.
