Women's Basketball Hosts Southern Virginia in Home Opener

RADFORD, Va. - Coming off a eight-day road trip, Radford women's basketball will play its first home game of the 2008-09 campaign when it hosts Southern Virginia on Friday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. in Peters Hall Gymnasium. The game is the first for the Highlanders at the on-campus gym since an 89-73 win over Hampton on Dec. 8, 1981.

This will be the fifth meeting between the teams with Radford winning the first four contests. In their last game, the Highlanders defeated the Knights, 82-51 on Jan. 12, 2006. The Highlanders have won by an average margin of 41.5 points per game.

The Highlanders (0-6), who opened with their first six game on the road, are looking for their first win of the season when they host the Knights (6-2) out of Buena Vista, Va. Radford dropped the final game of its trip at No. 16 Vanderbilt on Tuesday, 78-41.

Seniors Johnette Walker (Columbia, S.C./Irmo) and Vandy Pullen (Arlington, Va./Maine) highlighted Radford in Nashville. Walker broke the all-time free throw mark hitting her 360th, surpassing Kelli Tull (1996-00). She is also just 16 points shy of 1,000. Pullen led the Highlanders against the Commodores netting a team high 14 points, 10 coming in the second half.

Sophomore Taleia Moton (Fort Washington, Md./Suitland) paces Radford, averaging 11.2 points per game.

Southern Virginia snapped a two-game skid with an 89-81 victory against Shenandoah on Wed., Dec. 3. Prior to the two losses, the Knights opened the season with a five-game winning streak.

Tricia Dixon leads the Knights offensively, averaging 20.9 points per game.
