Men’s Basketball Ends Presbyterian’s Home Streak with 65-55 Victory

CLINTON, S.C. – Radford used a pair of lengthy runs and a 53.1 shooting percentage to end Presbyterian's 14-game home winning streak with a 65-55 victory in Big South men's basketball action Saturday evening at the Templeton Center.

Joey Lynch-Flohr (Fairfax, Va. / Fairfax) led Radford (5-9, 2-1 BSC) with 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting, while Art Parakhouski (Minsk, Belarus) recorded his league-leading seventh double-double of the season and third straight with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Parakhouski, who entered the contest as the league's top rebounder, also had a strong showing from the floor going 7-for-12. Amir Johnson (Pittsburgh, Pa / Quaker Valley) was the third Highlander to hit the 10-point plateau recording 13 points in 38 minutes of action.

Prior to tonight's setback, Presbyterian had not dropped a home regular season contest since falling to Lincoln Memorial on Jan. 10, 2007.

Radford, which shot 51.7 percent (15-29) in the opening 20 minutes of action, closed the frame on a 25-8 streak to head into the break leading, 36-18. While torching the nets, the Highlanders also turned up the pressure on the defensive end of the floor, holding Presbyterian to just seven field goals and 33.3 percent in the period.

“We played an extremely strong defensive first half,” commented Radford head coach Brad Greenberg. “We established ourselves on the defensive end and made our presences felt on the offensive end of the floor.”

To go along with their impressive shooting clip, the Highlanders grabbed nine offensive rebounds in the first half to control the glass, 25-8.

The frontcourt duo of Parakhouski (14) and Lynch-Flohr (11) combined to score 25 points in the stanza for Radford.

After Chase Holmes cut the Presbyterian (5-9, 2-1 BSC) deficit to 40-27, Radford responded with a 15-3 flurry capped by a Johnson layup, to stretch the advantage to its largest of the evening, 55-30, with 10:36 left. The Blue Hose slowly chipped away at the margin, but were unable to get it under double digits the rest of the way.

“Presbyterian is a very physical and extremely well-coached team,” said Greenberg.

The Highlanders continued their hot shooting in the second half, connecting on 55.0 percent (11-20) of their tries.

Like Radford, the Blue Hose placed three in double figures, led by Pierre Miller's 15 points.

“It's important for us to have confidence we can win conference road games.”

The Highlanders finished with a 37-21 advantage on the boards.

Radford will conclude its three-game road trip with a 7:30 p.m. tip at Coastal Carolina Monday evening in Conway, S.C.
