ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Winthrop had three players record double-doubles and connected on almost 30-percent of its attempts to defeat Radford 3-1 (25-16, 25-12, 22-25, 25-12) in Big South volleyball action Saturday afternoon at the Winthrop Coliseum.
The loss drops the Highlanders to 10-10 and 1-4 in the conference, while the Eagles remain perfect at home this season improving to 11-6 and 3-1.
Freshman Desiree Aramburu (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) led Radford with 27 assists and 17 digs for her seventh 10-assist / 10-dig performance of the 2009 campaign. Sophomore libero Katelyn Meeks (Richmond, Va. / Mills Godwin) also hit double-digit digs for the Highlanders with 15.
Along with holding the Highlanders to a .054 hitting percentage, Winthrop served up eight aces and finished with a 4-3 edge in blocks.
For the second straight match, Megan McWhorter (Newport News, Va. / Peninsula Catholic) paced the Highlanders in kills with eight.
Kelly Taylor led both clubs offensively with 14 kills and a .545 hitting percentage, while Kaley Viola (13 kills, 16 digs), Kellie Sellers (10 kills, 15 digs) and Kelsey Hall (47 assists, 11 digs) each finished with double-doubles for the Eagles.
The Highlanders will continue their four-match road trip with a 7 p.m. match at Liberty Tuesday evening in Lynchburg, Va.
