Charleston Southern Spoils Volleyball’s “Senior Day”, 3-0

RADFORD, Va. – Double figure kills from Megan McWhorter (Newport News, Va. /Peninsula Catholic) and Lauren Clary (Roanoke, Va. / Cave Spring) weren't enough as Radford fell to Charleston Southern 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 29-27) in Big South volleyball action Saturday afternoon at the Dedmon Center.

The setback drops the Highlanders to 12-19 overall and 2-13 in league play, while CSU improves to 16-14 and 6-8.

McWhorter and Clary paced both clubs with 15 and 14 kills, respectively. Desiree Aramburu (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) set up 40 of Radford's 48 kills, while Katelyn Meeks (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) led all players with 19 digs.

Despite a game-high seven kills and .778 hitting percentage from McWhorter, Charleston Southern closed the opener with three of the last four points to win the frame, 25-22. Both clubs found the floor with 17 attempts in the first.

In game two, the Buccaneers raced out to a 10-4 advantage forcing Radford to burn its first timeout. Following the break, Charleston Southern stretched its lead to as many as nine, 24-15, before taking a two games to one lead into the half.

Charleston Southern finished the second stanza with six total blocks, including five block assists from Crissy Skokan, who concluded the match with eight.

McWhorter led all players at intermission with 10 kills.

Game three featured 21 ties and 16 lead changes before Charleston Southern clinched the game and match with back-to-back Highlander errors. Neither club led by more than two points the entire set.

Playing in her final regular season match at the Dedmon Center, Clary put down seven of her 10 attempts (.700) in the final game.

Amanda Hill (13) and Nichole Diller (11) were the lone Buccaneers to finish with double figure kills.

Charleston Southern outhit the Highlanders .340 to .198 and held a commanding 12-2 advantage in total blocks. Radford finished with a 48-44 edge in kills, with 19 coming in the final game.

Clary and fellow senior Lexi Miller (Glen Ellyn, Ill. / Glenbard West) were honored prior to this afternoon's tilt.

Radford will enjoy another week break before traveling to Presbyterian for its regular season finale Nov. 14 at 2 p.m.
