RADFORD, Va. –
Radford opens Big South play and continues its longest (five games) road trip of the 2009-10 season Thursday evening with a 7:30 p.m. tip at Winthrop.

The Highlanders (2-2) are in the middle of their longest set of road games since a five-game swing during the 2003-04 season and look to get their success away from home back on track after dropping consecutive contests.

Radford, which swept last year's home-and-home with the Eagles, leads the all-time series 29-26. Prior to the 2008-09 campaign, Winthrop reeled off 12 straight against the Highlanders dating back to Feb. 5, 2003.

Coming off the first 20-20 effort in Radford history, Art Parakhouski (Minsk, Belarus) continues to lead the Highlanders and rank nationally in scoring (T-6th/25.0 ppg.) and rebounding (1st/16.0 rpg.).

Parakhouski, the Big South Preseason Player of the Year, recorded his 6th straight and 21st career double-double (26 pts / 20 rebs) in Radford's 71-63 setback at Duquesne Sunday.

Senior Joey Lynch-Flohr (Fairfax, Va. / Fairfax) and freshman Blake Smith (Charlotte, N.C. / United Faith Christian) are also averaging double digits for the Highlanders pouring in 14.8 and 13.0 points per game, respectively.

Since joining the league in 1985, the Highlanders are 10-14 all-time in conference openers.

Winthrop enters Thursday's tilt 2-3 overall following a 70-51 loss at Appalachian State Monday.

As a team, the Eagles are averaging just 56.0 points per outing, while only shooting 35.6 percent from the floor and 16.4 percent (9-55) from behind the 3-point line. Despite its shooting woes, Winthrop is forcing almost 20 turnovers per game, while picking up 11.2 steals.

Andre Jones leads Winthrop offensively averaging nine points per contest.

Following their league opener, the Highlanders will wrap up their two-game conference trip at Presbyterian Saturday in Clinton, S.C.
