HAMPTON. Va. – Quanneisha Perry and Brenna Jones combined for 31 points and Hampton forced 34 turnovers to defeat Radford, 63-43, Wednesday evening from the HU Convocation Center.

Perry netted a team-best 16 points for the Pirates (3-7), while Jones recorded a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Kymesha Alston scored a game-high 18 points for the Highlanders (1-9). The Heritage high school product went 7-for-10 from the floor and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Freshman
Ashley Buckhannon (Wytheville, Va./George Wythe) was also in double figures, tallying a career-high 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting.
Draining six of its first 10 shots, Hampton jumped out to a 14-2 lead in the first 6:25 of the game. Plagued by 20 first half turnovers, the Highlanders never found any offensive flow, but were able to use a strong defensive spurt to get within 25-16. However, the Pirates found their rhythm and closed out the half with a 10-2 run to take a 35-18 lead into the break.
Alston led all scorers at the break with 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting. She grabbed a half-high five boards, which helped Radford win the battle on the glass, 21-15.
Jones and Perry paced Hampton with nine and eight points respectively. The Pirates turned those 20 Highlander turnovers into 16 points.
In the second half, Radford used an 18-4 run, highlighted by nine points from Buckhannon to cut Hampton's lead to 50-40 at the 6:20 mark. However, Hampton scored six quick points, four by Jones to push its lead back to 16 points (56-40) with 5:16 on the clock.
The Highlanders shot 39.5 percent for the contest and just 50 percent from the charity stripe.
Hampton outrebounded Radford, 39-33 after a 24-12 edge in the second half. Junior
Jewell Kinlaw (Madison, Ala./Northwest Shoals CC) and Buckhannon pulled down six and five boards respectively.
Following the Christmas holiday, the Highlanders return to action on Thursday, Dec. 31, traveling to Marshall for a New Year's Eve tilt. Tip time is set for noon.
