RADFORD, Va. – Radford plays its second-straight televised game when the Highlanders host George Mason in a non-conference men's basketball matchup on Wednesday night (Dec. 30) at the Dedmon Center.
Following its televised contest on Sunday at Louisville (L 53-79), Radford's (5-5) matchup with the Patriots (6-5) can be seen regionally on Mid-Atlantic Sports Network at 7 p.m.
Wednesday is the fourth time in the last five seasons that the Highlanders and George Mason have met and the 15th meeting, all-time. In last season's matchup in Fairfax (Dec. 19), Mason hit eight three-pointers in the second half and got a career-high 21 points from Cam Long to defeat Radford 67-55.
Art Parakhouski scored (Minsk, Belarus) 11 points and
Joey Lynch-Flohr (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) chipped in 10 for the Highlanders in the loss.
Mason's last trip to the Dedmon Center came after its Final Four season in 2006, a 62-60 win for the Patriots on Dec. 6. Radford is in search of its first win against Mason since 1993.
Radford returned to the court following a holiday break against Louisville at Freedom Hall in a game where the Cardinals outrebounded the Highlanders 46-33 (23-12, offensive rebounds) and outscored Radford off turnovers 22-9.
Three Radford players – Parakhouski (14), Lynch-Flohr (11) and
Laz Trifunovic (Belgrade, Serbia) (11) reached double figures in the Highlanders' first-ever meeting with Louisville.
In its last outing, Mason survived VMI in the second half and rallied for an 89-86 win over the Keydets at the Patriot Center on Dec. 22. VMI led the Patriots 76-71 with less than nine minutes left, but Mason used a 7-0 run over the next two minutes to take the lead for good.
The Patriots are 3-1 over their last four games and 1-2 on the road this season. Mason had narrow neutral floor losses to ranked teams in Villanova (69-68) and Georgia Tech (70-62) at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off in November.
Radford's matchup with George Mason is the last non-conference game heading into Big South play on Saturday (UNC Asheville) and Monday (Gardner-Webb). The Highlanders still have James Madison (TBA) and an ESPNU Bracketbuster game (Feb. 19) remaining on the non-conference schedule following Wednesday's game.
