Women's Hoops Head to Marshall for New Year's Eve Matinee

RADFORD, Va. -- Radford closes the books on its non-conference season when it heads to Huntington, W.Va. for a New Year's Eve matinee at Marshall with the tip off at the Cam Henderson Center scheduled for noon.

The Highlanders, playing their seventh consecutive road game, have dropped their last four contests and look to get a win heading into the New Year and Big South play. The Thundering Herd have won five straight and six of seven after defeating Murray State as part of the 5/3 Challenge on Dec. 29.

This will be the 26th matchup in the series with Marshall. The Thundering Herd hold a slight advantage in the series, 13-12. Radford has won three of the last four meetings, including a 72-61 victory on Nov. 17, 2007 in Oxford Ohio. The victory came in the 2007-08 preseason WNIT consolation bracket at Miami (Ohio).

Quanneisha Perry and Brenna Jones combined for 31 points and Hampton forced 34 turnovers to defeat Radford, 63-43, Dec. 23 from the HU Convocation Center. Perry netted a team-best 16 points for the Pirates, while Jones recorded a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Playing in her hometown, redshirt senior Kymesha Alston (Hampton, Va./Manhattan) scored a game-high 18 points for the Highlanders. The Heritage high school product went 7-for-10 from the floor and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Freshman Ashley Buckhannon (Wytheville, Va./George Wythe) was also in double figures, tallying a career-high 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting.

Marshall is on a roll, winning five straight and six of seven games after defeating Murray State, 68-58 in the second part of the 5/3 Challenge at the Cam Henderson Center. Tynikki Crook leads the Thundering Herd, recording a team-best 14.4 points and 7.4 rebounds per game and is tops in shooting percentage (.500), while averaging 23.3 minutes per contest.

Radford ends its eight-game road swing on Jan. 4 when it begins Big South Conference play at Gardner-Webb. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
