Women's Hoops Welcome Southern Virginia on Saturday

RADFORD, Va. -- Radford women's basketball returns home briefly on Saturday for an afternoon tilt against Southern Virginia. Tip time is set for 3 p.m. from the Dedmon Center.

Radford, still searching for its first win of the season, hosts a SVU team that is coming off a victory at Mary Baldwin on Wednesday and has won three of its last four contests.

This will be the sixth meeting against the Knights with the Highlanders winning all five contests in a series that dates back to the 2002-03 season. In the last meeting, Radford won 78-58 on Dec. 5, 2008 in Peters Hall. All five game have been contested in Radford with the Highlanders winning by an average of 37.2 points per game. Last year's victory over the Knights gave head coach Tajama Abraham Ngongba her first win as a head coach.

In Radford last contest, West Virginia, behind a balanced scoring attack, 51 percent shooting and a stifling defense, defeated Radford, 64-28, Wednesday evening from WVU Coliseum. All 10 players scored for the Mountaineers led by Liz Repella's 13 points. Sarah Miles and Corinne Campbell added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Junior Denay Wood (Bailey's Crossroads, Va./Annandale) was the lone Highlander in double figures with 10 points. She was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line and the Highlanders were 10-13 for the contest. She also recorded five rebounds and four steals.

Southern Virginia enters the game winning three of its last four games after a 73-61 victory at Mary Baldwin on Wednesday evening. The Knights are paced on by Kezia Ford (14.6 ppg/8.1 rpg) and Amanda Prestwich (11.3 ppg/7.7 rpg). Both player shoot just over 50 percent from the field.

Radford heads to Chapel Hill, N.C. on Tuesday, Dec. 8 for a tilt with No. 4 North Carolina. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
