Hot-Shooting Liberty Rolls Past Women's Basketball, 80-61

Box Score

RADFORD, Va. – Liberty shot 62.5 percent from the floor and Megan Frazee recorded a double-double with 30 points 11 rebounds to defeat Radford 80-61 on Senior Night in Big South women's basketball action Friday evening at the Dedmon Center.

In the loss, sophomore Taleia Moton (Fort Washington, Md./Suitland) led three Highlanders (10-17, 9-7 Big South) in double figures with 18 points. Senior Johnette Walker (Columbia, S.C./Irmo) added 12, including a perfect 10-for-10 showing at the charity stripe, while junior Kymesha Alston (Hampton, Va./Manhattan) contributed 10.

Frazee drilled 12-of-14 attempts from the field in just 24 minutes of action. Her sister Moriah recorded 16 and Avery Warley was the other Flame in double digits with 10.

"Hats off to Liberty, they played an outstanding game," said head coach Tajama Ngongba.  "Allowing as many transition buckets as we did opened up the game for them.

"But, despite being a physical game, we never backed down and I'm proud of the way our team continued to fight."

To go along with their overall shooting percentage, the Flames (21-7, 15-0) hit 4-of-7 from outside (57.1 percent). Radford finished 21-of-56 (37.5 percent) from the field, but made good on 15 of 19 (78.9 percent) tries at the line.

Liberty, which torched the nets for 70.8 percent (17-of-24) in the first 20 minutes of action, raced out to a 21-6 advantage.

Radford answered the Flames' lengthy spurt with one of its own capped by back-to-back layups from freshman Kahealani Vick (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) to cut the deficit to six, 28-22, but Liberty closed the half on another flurry to go ahead at the half, 45-29.

The frontcourt duo of Megan (18) and Moriah Frazee for Liberty combined for 32 points in the first half, while missing just three of their 14 tries from the floor.

Liberty finished with 20 assists on 30 field goals, including nine straight to start the game.

The Highlanders made it a 14-point contest on several occasions early in the second half, but that's as close as they got the rest of the way.

Radford returns to action at next week's Big South Tournament in High Point, N.C.
