RADFORD, Va. – In search of their first league title in school history, head coach Mike Grant and the Radford men's golf team will travel to Ninety-Six, S.C. for the 2009 Big South Championships April 20-22.
The three-day event hosted by Coastal Carolina will be played on the Par 72 Patriot Club layout.
Radford, which earned the league's third seed based on its current Golfweek national ranking, will tee off in groups of three with individuals from Coastal Carolina and Liberty beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Second and third round tee times will be determined by the team standings following the first two rounds.
Freshman Paul Woodson (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) leads the Highlanders with a 74.9 stroke average, including a ninth place finish in the Ironwood Pirate Intercollegiate hosted by East Carolina.
Chris Dillow (Bland, Va./Bland) and Kyle Bailey (Fincastle, Va./James River) are just behind Woodson with averages of 75.0 and 75.4, respectively.
Radford's top three golfers have combined for four top-10 finishes and eight rounds of par or better.
Last season the Highlanders recorded their lowest finish ever at the league championships with a third place showing and 54-hole total of 891, which was also a school tournament record.
Prior to 2007, Radford had never finished higher than fifth at the conference tournament.
The 2009 Big South Champion will earn the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
