Volleyball Rallies Past Loyola to Finish Duquesne / Robert Morris Tournament, 2-2

BOX SCORE

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Desiree Aramburu (Chicago, Ill. / Mother McAuley) recorded her first career double-double with 38 assists and 11 digs to lead Radford to a come-from-behind 3-2 (22-25, 25-16, 25-27, 25-20, 16-14) victory over Loyola (Md.) on the final day of the Duquesne / Robert Morris Tournament Saturday at the Sewall Center.

With the win, the Highlanders finished the season-opening event 2-2, while the Greyhounds remain winless on the young campaign falling to 0-4.

Trailing two games to one, Radford used 14 kills (.238) and a 13-6 run midway through game four to force a fifth and decisive frame.

The Highlanders broke a 2-2 tie in the final game with a 9-4 streak capped off by an Emily Hayes' (Bartlett, Ill. / Bartlett) kill to grab a comfortable 11-6 advantage. Following Radford's lengthy run, Loyola (Md.) responded with an 8-3 run of its own to even the score, 14-14. A Clary kill and Greyhound attack error clinched the game and match for the Highlanders.

Fresh off a five kill (.625), 33 assist, seven dig and two service ace performance against Robert Morris earlier in the day, Aramburu added five kills (.625) and six of Radford's 12 service aces in just her third collegiate contest.

Caroline Ratterree (Falcon, Colo. / Northeastern Junior College) led the Highlanders with 10 kills, while Lauren Clary (Roanoke, Va. / Cave Spring) turned in another solid outing with nine kills and 23 digs.

Junior Kiley Kent (Indianapolis, Ind. / Warren Central) and Katelyn Meeks (Richmond, Va. / Mills Godwin) also picked up double figure digs for Radford with 23 and 18, respectively.

As a team, the Highlanders finished with a .182 attack percentage, while holding the Greyhounds to just a .097 clip. Radford also held a 7-6 advantage in total blocks.

Loyola's Nina Camaioni led all players with 16 kills. Kathryn Dircks (15) and Karlee Woodward (10) also contributed double figure kills for the Greyhounds.

Aramburu was the lone Highlander named to the Courtyard By Marriott All-Tournament Team.

The Highlanders will enjoy a week break before hosting the inaugural Radford University Tournament Sept. 4-5. The five-team event begins Friday afternoon at the Dedmon Center.
