ELON, N.C. – Playing in its fourth straight match away from home, Radford fell to Elon 3-0 (8-25, 11-25, 24-26) in non-conference volleyball action Tuesday evening at Alumni Gymnasium.
The setback drops the Highlanders to 7-5 overall, while Elon remains unbeaten on the 2009 season improving to 10-0.
Elon, which didn't trail until the third frame, used lengthy runs in both the first (15-2) and second (13-4) games to grab a 2-0 advantage at the break.
After the Highlanders jumped out to a 10-6 lead in game three, Elon erased the early deficit with an 8-1 flurry to go in front, 14-11. Radford responded with five of the next seven points, including four straight, to retake the lead. As they did earlier in the game, the Phoenix answered with a streak of their own before clinching the game and match.
Elon's Lauren Copenhagen led all players with 10 kills on 23 attempts (.348), while Emily Regan paced both setters with 20 assists.
The Phoenix outhit Radford .274 to -.036 and finished with a 9-2 margin in total blocks.
Mariah Nussbaum (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julienne) led the Highlanders with a .286 attack percentage on seven swings and 1.5 blocks.
Radford returns to action this weekend at the Bucknell Tournament beginning with a 5 p.m. contest against Rutgers followed by a pair of matches Saturday afternoon.
