RADFORD, Va. -- Riding its longest winning streak since the 2001 campaign, Radford will conclude its four-match homestand with a 7 p.m. contest against in-state foe James Madison Tuesday evening at the Dedmon Center.
The Highlanders enter the 26th meeting all-time with the Dukes 5-2 on the young season after sweeping their inaugural tournament this past weekend with wins over Coppin State, South Carolina State and Bradley.
After grabbing a spot on the Duquesne / Robert Morris All-Tournament team in her collegiate debut,
Desiree Aramburu (Chicago, Ill. / Mother McAuley) was voted the Radford University Tournament MVP. For the weekend, Aramburu recorded 91 assists (9.1 apg), 15 kills (.667), 20 digs (2.0 dpg), five blocks and was responsible for 19.5 points.
Joining Aramburu on the RU All-Tournament team was junior
Laura Waddell (Lynchburg, Va. / E.C. Glass), who leads the Highlanders in kills (64), kills per game (2.56) and points (70.0).
As a team, the Highlanders are averaging 11.00 kills per game and almost eight service aces per match, while holding their opponents to a .126 attack percentage.
James Madison comes in with a 3-3 mark after a pair of victories in its home tournament, the JMU Days Inn Invitational. The Dukes fell to Duquesne on Friday evening before concluding the tournament with wins over Hampton and St. Francis on day two.
Danielle Erb leads the Dukes in kills (82), kills per game (3.42) and points per game (4.08), while ranking second on the club in digs (61) and digs per game (2.54).
JMU leads the all-time series with the Highlanders 21-4, including a 3-1 victory in Harrisonburg a year ago.
Following this evening's tilt with James Madison, Radford will hit the road for its longest swing of 2009, beginning with a 4:30 p.m. contest against Canisius at the Davidson Wildcat Classic in Davidson, N.C., September 11-12.
