CONWAY, S.C. – Despite a triple-double from sophomore
Desiree Aramburu, Radford fell to the defending Big South Champs, Coastal Carolina, 3-1 (34-32, 25-20, 25-27, 25-21) in volleyball action Saturday afternoon at Kimbel Arena.
The loss drops the Highlanders to 7-15 overall and 1-7 in league play, while CCU improves to 11-11 and 4-4.
In addition to 10 kills and a .429 hitting percentage, Aramburu picked up 12 digs and 44 assists for her first career triple-double.
Senior
Laura Waddell also hit the 10-kill plateau for Radford with 15 on 46 swings, while
Carly Fleming and fellow junior
Megan McWhorter contributed 11 and 10, respectively.
As a team, CCU held Radford to a .198 hitting percentage with six total team blocks, while finding the floor with 70 kills and a .291 hitting percentage.
Erika Lightsey led Costal Carolina with a match-high 21 kills on 50 swings, while Kelsie Mauck put up 51 assists, 10 kills and 11 digs for a triple-double of her own.
Both teams battled back and forth in the first set, which featured 17 ties and five lead changes before the Chanticleers finished with two straight kills to take the game, 34-32.
Coastal came out strong in the second set with 16 kills and a .375 hitting percentage to take the frame, 25-20.
Tied at 23-23 in the third, Radford closed with a 4-2 run to force a fourth game with a 27-25 decision.
Coastal took the final game, 25-21 with 14 kills and just two attacking errors to secure the victory.
The Highlanders will return to action Friday to take on Winthrop at 7 p.m. in the Dedmon Center.
