UNC ASHEVILLE RALLIES PAST VOLLEYBALL, 3-2

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Despite Radford having three attackers in double-figures, UNC Asheville came from behind to secure a 3-2 (25-23, 25-23, 18-25, 25-27, 10-15) victory over the Highlanders in Big South action, Saturday afternoon at the Justice Center.

The loss drops the Highlanders 8-18 and 2-9 in the conference, while the Bulldogs improve to 15-10, 7-4.

Senior Laura Waddell led Radford with 15 kills and just three errors (.261), while Carly Fleming recorded a season-high 13 kills. Megan McWhorter followed with 12 kills.

Senior Kiley Kent served up three aces to become Radford's all-time leader with 166.

Desiree Aramburu led all setters with a season-high 57 assists and 12 digs for her 10th double-double of 2010.

Defensively, Katelyn Meeks led the Highlanders with a season-high 35 digs, while Alex Stewart picked up 40 for the Bulldogs.

As a team, UNC Asheville held Radford to a .129 hitting percentage with a total of 12 team blocks. The Bulldogs did not have trouble finding the floor with 57 kills and just 18 errors.

Kelsey Benorden led UNC Asheville with 14 kills and 33 digs, while Cindi Miller followed by putting down 13 kills and 16 digs.

After dropping the first two sets 25-23, UNC Asheville responded with a 25-18 win in the third set led by Holley Shelton with three kills and two blocks.

Radford responded in the fourth leading 19-14 after a kill from McWhorter, but UNC Asheville roared back with a 10-2 run to take the lead 24-21. The Highlanders fought back with three straight points to knot the set, 24-24. It would stay tied until a service error from the Highlanders and a kill from Shelton gave the Bulldogs the fourth set.

The Highlanders raced to an early 8-3 lead until the Bulldogs responded with four straight points to close the gap and eventually take the final set, 15-10.

Radford will be back in action Tuesday traveling to High Point at 7 p.m.
