MEYER AND RADFORD DEFEAT GARDNER-WEBB, 3-1

RADFORD, Va.
– Radford's Yacine Meyer led the Highlanders to a 3-1 (27-25, 25-21, 13-25, 25-14) victory over Gardner-Webb with her first double-double of the season, 12 kills and 21 digs, Saturday at the Dedmon Center.

With the victory the Highlanders improve to 7-13 and 1-5 in the Big South, while the Bulldogs drop to 4-16 and 0-6.

Along with Meyer's double-double, freshman Jesse Miedema recorded 11 kills, while junior Carly Fleming and freshman Ashley Acklin recorded 10 kills each.

At the setter position, sophomore Desiree Aramburu recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 43 assists and 10 digs.

Defensively, junior Katelyn Meeks and freshman Storm Melnick both were in double-figures with 15 and 14 digs, respectively.

As a team, Radford didn't have trouble finding the floor with 53 kills and six blocks, while holding Gardner-Webb to .148 hitting percentage and just 43 kills.

Tyler Cockrell led Gardner-Webb with 10 kills (.300) and five block assists.

Game one featured 12 ties and four lead changes before the Highlanders took the opener, 27-25. Radford jumped out to a 9-5 advantage before the Bulldogs responded with a small run to setup the back and forth frame.

With five kills and seven digs from Meyer in the second game, the Highlanders raced out to a 14-4 lead en route to taking the set 25-21 and a two-game lead at the break.

The Bulldogs fired back in the third game, holding the Highlanders to only a .072 hitting percentage with 5 total team blocks to secure the win, 25-13.

Radford took the lead early in the final game, while Miedema found the floor with five of the Highlanders' 15 kills to secure the match with a 25-14 decision.

The Highlanders return to the court Tuesday to take on conference-foe High Point at 7 p.m. Gardner-Webb travels to North Carolina A&T for a 6 p.m. match Oct. 12.
