RUTV: WOMEN'S HOOPS FORCE 30 MISCUES IN 74-28 EXHIBITION VICTORY

RADFORD, Va. – Radford raced out to an 18-2 lead and forced 30 turnovers as it cruised to a 74-28 exhibition victory over Emory & Henry in women's basketball action Wednesday evening from the Dedmon Center.

Senior Denay Wood paced the Highlanders with a game-high 17 points. Defensively, the Highlanders scored 39 points off those turnovers and recorded 17 steals. Wood and sophomore Victoria Hamilton each registered a game-high five thefts.

Red-shirt senior Brooke McElroy and senior Kaylyn Crosier combined for nine points during the game-opening 18-2 run. The Highlanders also forced four quick turnovers during the surge, which led to six points and scored 21 points off of 14 Wasps' first half miscues.

The Highlanders extended their lead to as many as 25 points in the first stanza and took a 35-12 lead into the locker room.

Eight Highlanders scored in the first half as Radford shot 52 percent (15-29) from the floor. Crosier led all players with nine points at the break. Wood and McElroy chipped in with six and five points apiece.

Radford used a 20-4 run over an 8:51 span in second half to extend its lead to 58-18 at the 8:41 mark. Half of the points during the run were courtesy of Wood, who sparked the run with a pair of trifectas.

After a three by Emory & Henry's Christina Howard, Radford pushed its lead back to 40 and maintained at least that advantage the remainder of the game.

Radford finished the contest shooting 48 percent (26-54) from the floor, while holding Emory & Henry to 27 percent (11-41). The Highlanders almost doubled up the Wasps on the boards, 44-24 and outscored them 34-6 in the paint.

McElroy and Crosier chipped in with 10 and nine points, respectively. McElroy pulled down a game-high seven boards and also recorded four of Radford's seven blocks.

Howard led all Wasps with 12 points, while Jo Beth Wright paced Emory and Henry on the glass with five caroms.

Radford opens up the regular season at home on Monday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. when it hosts the Ferrum Panthers. It will be the first season-opener at home for the Highlanders since the 1999-00 campaign.
