To create more awareness for Heart Disease and to raise money to benefit the
American Heart Association during the 2010-11 season, head coach Brad Greenberg and assistant Cedric Smith will take part in “Shots From the Heart” presented by
CollegeInsider.com in honor of former Wake Forest coach Skip Prosser.
“Shots from the Heart is a tribute to Skip Prosser,” said Greenberg, the 2009 Big South Coach of the Year. “Everyone who knew Skip liked and respected him. Being involved in any event that carries his name is an honor. It's a privilege to be part of a cause that carries his name.”
OBJECTIVE: Help to create more awareness for the growing problem of Heart Disease and to raise money to benefit the American Heart Association during the 2010-11 season.
TOURNAMENTS: There will be two 64-coach fields (one for head coaches and one for assistant coaches). Participating coaches will compete in a free throw shooting contest, which will be bracketed in NCAA tournament format.
FORMAT: Starting in November coaches would compete against one another with winners advancing to the next round. To make the process simple, coaches would not have to actually compete against each other on the same court. Each coach would have to shoot 25 free throws at his convenience. A member of the athletic department would tally the results and the coach with the most makes would advance. There will be a tournament for both head coaches and assistant coaches.
MATCHUPS: One of the main objectives is to create as much awareness for the battle against heart disease so it is important to maximize the coverage. It would be counterproductive to have all the participating coaches shooting at the same time. Therefore we will request that half of the field take their 25 shots in the first two weeks of the month and the other half attempt their 25 shots in the final two weeks of the month.
* With the first round beginning on Nov. 15, half of the field will compete from Nov. 15 to Nov. 21 and the other half of the field will attempt their shots from Nov. 22 to Nov. 30.
SCORING: In an effort to avoid ties, the following scoring system will be used:
- Shots 1-20 are worth 1 point
- Shots 21-24 are worth 2 points
- Shot 25 is worth 3 points
