RADFORD, Va. – Despite winning the opening game and double-figure efforts from Laura Waddell and Carly Fleming, Radford dropped a 3-1 (25-18, 19-25, 13-25, 24-26) decision to league-rival Liberty Tuesday evening at the Dedmon Center.
Waddell finished with 12 kills, while Fleming added 10 and recorded a match-high .625 hitting percentage for the Highlanders.
Defensively, Katelyn Meeks paced Radford with 18 digs.
In game one, Radford (10-20, 4-11) used a 16-7 spurt and a .382 hitting percentage to take the opener 25-18. The Highlanders got four kills each from Waddell, Fleming and Megan McWhorter, while recording 17 as a team in the set.
Liberty (22-8, 13-2) used a 10-4 run to break open game two, which featured nine ties and three lead changes before the Flames tied the score at one game a piece with a 25-19 win. Both teams connected on well over 30 percent of their attempts in the second stanza.
The Flames raced out to a 12-4 lead in game three and didn't allow the Highlanders closer than five the rest of the way.
Trailing 18-14 in the final game, Liberty went on a 9-3 run to grab a 23-21 advantage. The Highlanders responded with a small spurt of their own to tie the game 24-24 before the Flames scored the final two points to secure the game and comeback.
Lillie Happel led three Flames in double figures with a match-high 19 kills, while Karyl Bacon and Kendle Rollins contributed 11 and 10, respectively.
Liberty's Jade Craycraft paced both setters with 44 assists.
The Flames concluded the tilt with a .265 hitting percentage, while Radford finished with a .211 clip. Both club had six total blocks.
Radford will conclude its regular season hosting Coastal Carolina Friday at 7 p.m., while Liberty hosts UNC Asheville for a 7 p.m. match.
