DA'NARIA ERWIN SPENCER NETS SEASON-HIGH 21 POINTS

BOX SCORE

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Sophomore Da'Naria Erwin Spencer scored a season-high 21 points, but a 12-1 run broke open a two-point game as Davidson defeated Radford, 71-62 on Saturday evening from Belk Arena.

Erwin Spencer, playing close to home, poured in 15 of those points after halftime. She went career-high 8-for-14 from the floor, including 3-of-4 from behind the arc. She also paced the Highlanders (2-4) registered five assists and four steals. Senior Denay Wood added 13 points, all in the second stanza.

For the Wildcats (4-3) Sophia Alexsandravicius netted a game and career-best 31 points, 21 in the second half, going 11-for-16 from the field and 9-for-11 from the charity stripe. She also pulled down nine rebounds and rejected six shots. Kristen Johnsen registered a double-double with 10 points, all from the foul line, and a game-high 11 boards.

The difference in the contest was Davidson's ability to get to the free throw line as it hit 32-of-41, including 25-of-33 in the second half. Radford went to the line just 13 times and drained nine of them.

After a dismal first half of shooting, both teams found their strokes in the second half as Radford shot 51.5 percent (17-33) and Davidson, 43.5 percent (10-23).

Radford chipped away at the lead and tied the game at 30-30 on Wood's three-pointer 4:31 into the second half. Davidson answered with an 11-2 run, sparked by a pair of Ashley Lax trifectas to take a 41-32 lead at the 11-26 mark.

The Highlanders were able to get within two (46-44), behind a 12-5 spurt that was capped off by an Erwin Spencer triple at 8:36.

That would be as close as Radford would get as Davidson went on a 12-1 run to put the game out of reach.

Sophomore Victoria Hamiltonadded seven points and a team-best seven rebounds.

Lax and Laura Murray were also in double figures for the Wildcats with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

The first half saw both teams struggle to shoot, hitting seven field goals apiece, Davidson (32 percent) took a 23-17 lead into the lockerroom. After Radford (25 percent) chipped away from two seven-point deficits and cut it to one (17-16) with 3:14 to go, the Wildcats used a 6-1 spurt over the final 2:23 to grab the six-point halftime lead.

After grabbing an early 6-4 lead, Radford was held scoreless for the next 7:31. During that time, Davidson scored nine points, four by Aleksandravicius, to grab a 13-6 lead. Erwin Spencer ended the drought with two of her six first half points on a mid-range jumper at 7:26. Aleksandravicius led all scorers at the break with 10 points.

Radford returns to action on Monday, Dec. 6 when it travels to Charlottesville, Va. for a 7 p.m. contest at Virginia.
